ToddSampson.com: Peak Oversight: A Corporate Disease

I take issue with your last sentence about there being no known cure. In fact, I happen to know of a promising practice out here in Boulder that's guaranteed to fix this malady. Anytime you want to come explore for a while and clean it out of your system, let me know.

Thanks for the comment Rob... Details please. (Note: By its very nature, this is a large enterprise issue; and yet another reason I am a startup guy at heart.)

I've thought about this before. It's almost cliche to bring it up, but it sounds a *lot* like the RIAA and the recording industry.

The only solution I can think of is to have high enough margins on existing business to support a healthy and aggressive R&D department

Think about *why* people buy your product not so much *how* they use it once they already bought it. As Christensen says in the Innovator's Solution, "People don't want to buy a quarter-inch drill. They want a quarter-inch hole." Continue to fulfill that desire and you'll stay relevant.
